Cycle with us towards the south and experience impressive landscapes, cultural gems, genuine customs and hearty cuisine. Starting from the city of Mozart, this tour takes you varied cycling tour through the lovely Salzach Valley, the wildly romantic Gastein Valley and the idyllic Drau Valley to Carinthia and on to the Adriatic Sea.

Rugged mountain peaks, sweeping rivers, rushing waterfalls and deep Gorges will be your constant companions on this tour towards the sun of the south. And as a reward, delicious Salzburger Nockerl and Carinthian Kasnudeln await you.

Route and requirements

Follow the well-developed bike path from Salzburger Land to Carinthia and the Adriatic Sea. Discover unique natural and cultural highlights along the way. In total, you will cover 370 kilometers on this tour with your Bicycle back. The route is mostly gently hilly. The most challenging section between St. Johann and the Gastein Valley can be optionally bridged by train.

Most of the time you will cycle on bike paths. Gelegentlich führt der Weg entlang ruhiger Nebenstraßen. Nur wenige Teilstücke führen auch auf stärker befahrenen Straßen oder unbefestigten Wegen.

The trip is not suitable for persons with reduced mobility. Please contact us for detailed information if needed.

Rental bicycles

Sturdy unisex touring bikes, 7 speeds with hub gears and coaster brake or 21 speeds with derailleur and freewheel (please choose when booking), comfort saddle, 28 inch with different frame heights. On request also 21-speed men’s bike possible.

Rental bike PLUS: the sportier option! High-quality equipment, for example, with 27-speed Shimano Deore XT gears, Magura brakes HS 11 and Suntour suspension fork.

Electric bikes: unisex bikes with electric pedal assistance up to 25 km/h; 8-speed gears with freewheel; range approx. 120 – 180 km (depending on riding style).

Own bikes

It is possible to bring your own bikes, but at your own risk. For possible damages etc. on the own bike during the whole bike trip as well as during transport trips can not be liable.

For your own safety, we recommend that you always wear a bicycle helmet on all bicycle tours.

Arrival by train

Travel relaxed by train. Salzburg is easily accessible by train. If you rent the bikes with us, you will also not have any stress with the bike transport. Just get on the train with you, on vacation, ready, go! Information and timetables can be found at Deutsche Bahn(www.bahn.de) or Österreichische Bundesbahn, www.oebb.at.

Return transfer

For the return journey from Grado to Salzburg we recommend you to book our transfer. The return journey by public transport ‘on your own’ is possible, but inconvenient and connected with several changes bus and train. If you book the return transfer through us, you can drive back relaxed on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the morning.

Arrival :
Day 1

Day 1: Arrival to Salzburg

Already on the day of arrival, an absolute highlight awaits you, the Mozart city of Salzburg. Winding alleys and squares invite you to stroll and dreamy cafés to enjoy genuine Austrian pastry specialties. Visit and tour historical buildings like the cathedral or the fortress.

The travel documents and your rental bikes – if booked – are waiting for you at the hotel.

Salzburg - Gollig :
Day 2

Bike tour Salzburg – Gollig, about 30 km

Majorollow the shady meadows of the Salzach as you leisurely roll out of Salzburg, the Salzach is your companion. It goes to Hallein, a Celtic town rich in the past due to salt mining . The main attraction is undoubtedly the world-famous Celtic Museum. Passing the Gollinger waterfall, your eponymous overnight stop is quickly reached . Characterized by its pretty market square and the 13th century castle.

A possible excursion leads to the beautiful Bluntau Valley.

Day 3

Bike tour Gollig – St. Johann, approx. approx. 35 km

From Golling you cycle up to Pass Lueg-Höhe, enjoy the view of the wonderfully striking Tennengebirge.
The mountain is now getting closer and closer to the Salzach and the rumbling of the water is getting louder and louder. You pass the so
called “Salzachöfen”, an imposing gorge created by the Salzach . After throwing with its high
towering castle is soon St . Johann reached . From Golling to Werfen the journey over the Lueg Pass can be made by train.

St. Johann - Mölltal :
Day 4

Bike tour St. Johann, 65 km, 500 m ↑, 400 m ↓, approx. 5 h + 15 min. train ride

Shortly after Schwarzach you say goodbye to the Salzach, from today on the Gasteiner Ache accompanies you through the wild and romantic Gastein valley. Via Dorfgastein and Bad Hofgastein you cycle to the well-known spa and winter sports resort Bad Gastein at the foot of the Hohe Tauern, which offers a variety of natural-historical and architectural sights. The landmark is the Gastein waterfall in the middle of the village, which has been the motif of many painters and poets.

Now it is only a stone’s throw to Böckstein, where a train of the Tauernschleuse will take you to the other side of the Alps, to Mallnitz, in only 10 minutes.

Back in the saddle, enjoy the exhilarating descent to your hotel in the Möll Valley.

Mölltal - Spittal :
Day 5

Bike tour Mölltal – Spittal, approx. 30 km

First along the river Möll you cycle today through impressive high mountain landscapes. In the place
Möllbrücke begins the Drau Valley and with it the sunny south of Austria.

Leisurely you roll the last kilometers
to Spittal an der Drau. The city was already in the Middle Ages an important transportation hub for pilgrims
and also owed their prosperity in part to them.

Spittal - Villach :
Day 6

Bike tour Spittal – Villach, approx. 30 km

Almost by itself you roll along the Drava in a gentle downhill. Halfway you should take a rest in the small
Market municipality of Paternion. Pedal a few more times and you’ve reached Villach,
whose heart is the charming old town with its southern flair.

Villach - Venzone :
Day 7

Bike tour Villach – Venzone, approx. 70 km, 550 m ↑, 1,050 m ↓, approx. 6 h + train ride

You will bridge the ascent to Tarvis by train.

From Travis station you will then cycle leisurely downhill through the Canal Valley, admiring from the saddle the beauties of the Friulian Alpine region with an intact, untouched nature and vast forests. The bike paths are also very well developed in Italy.

One of the pretty villages on the foothills of the Julian Alps serves as an overnight stop.

Venzone - Udine :
Day 8

Bike tour Venzone – Udine, approx. 50 km, 200 m ↑↓, approx. 4 h

At the southern exit of the Canal Valley lies one of the most beautiful historic towns in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The townscape of Gemona del Friuli is dominated by the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and will also inspire you.

On the way to Udine, the first vines already appear along the bike route. Once in the city, feel the “dolce vita” with a coffee in the “piazza” or during a stroll through the alleys, admiring the late Gothic and Renaissance buildings.

Day 9

Bike tour Udine – Grado, approx. 55 km, 200 m ↑↓, approx. 4 h

Warm breeze of the Scirocco blows around your nose! You will drive through wide reed landscapes and along small water channels towards the Gulf of Venice. In the Roman city of Aquileia, the so-called “Second Rome”, you should in any case plan a stop before you reach your destination of the trip.

One of the most popular seaside resorts on the Adriatic, the historic fishing town of Grado, not only knows how to inspire with its extensive sandy beach, but also the historic harbor and the narrow streets with cozy restaurants exude Italian flair.

Arrival by train?

Yes! Salzburg is easily accessible by train. Information and timetables can be found at Deutsche Bahn (www.bahn.de) or Bahn Österreichs (www.oebb.at). If you rent the bikes with us, you will also not have any stress with the bike transport. Just get on the train with you, on vacation, ready, go!

How to get back from Grado to Salzburg

For the return journey from Grado to Salzburg we recommend you to book our transfer. The return journey by public transport ‘on your own’ is possible, but inconvenient and connected with several changes bus and train. If you book the return transfer through us, you can drive back relaxed on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the morning.
You simply leave rental bikes at your destination. Own bikes can be booked – at your own risk – for the return transfer.

Can I bring my own bikes?

Yes. Of course. However, please note that you take your bikes at your own risk. We cannot accept any liability for possible damage to your own bike during the entire bike trip or during transport trips.

Which bikes can I rent?

We have touring bikes in standard or sporty version as well as e-bikes, parent – child tandems or child trailers in our offer. Please specify what you would like when booking:

1) Sturdy unisex touring bikes, 7 speeds with hub gears and coaster brake or 21 speeds with derailleur and freewheel (please choose when booking), comfort saddle, 28 inch with different frame heights. On request also 21-speed men’s bike possible.

2) Rental bike PLUS: the sportier option! High-quality equipment, for example, with 27-speed Shimano Deore XT gears, Magura brakes HS 11 and Suntour suspension fork.

3) Children’s bikes: 12-, 18- or 24-speed and freewheel. We are happy to provide this in the following sizes: 20, 24, or 26 inches.
Note: The number of gears is determined by the size of the wheel.

4) Children’s trailer: from KTM; can accommodate up to 2 children. Suitable from one and a half years or up to a height of 105 cm and 20 kg (two children up to 15 kg each).

5) Follow-Me: For children who can already ride a bike independently, but who would like to be pulled along the track by their parents from time to time. Bookable in combination with a 20 inch children’s bike and a rental bike for the parents.

6) Electric bikes: unisex bikes with electric pedal assist up to 25 km/h; 8-speed gears with freewheel; range approx. 120 – 180 km (depending on riding style).

Is there a child discount or family discount?

No. We do not offer special family discounts on this tour. However, we have our own family variant of the Alpe – Adria – Radweg in the program. The family tour of course offers you family prices.
