Hiking vacation in the Black Forest: The Schluchtensteig

8 Days

Your trip

Black Forest at sunset

Experience the high southern Black Forest from its most pristine side: rugged, mysterious and breathtakingly beautiful.

On the legendary Schluchtensteig trail, you hike over 6 stages in 8 days from Stühlingen to Wehr through spectacular gorges, over panoramic heights and past crystal-clear lakes – without any heavy luggage, as your suitcase travels comfortably from hotel to hotel. You only need to carry what you need for the day on your back – the small bag …

Highlights such as the Wutach Gorge, the Haslach Gorge, the Schluchsee, the mighty Feldberg and the Wehraschlucht gorge make every stage a first-class nature experience. Every day, a new gorge is waiting to be discovered – wild, deep and full of life.

This hiking week is as varied as it is challenging – and that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable.

What can you expect?

> an 8-day hiking tour with 7 overnight stays

> Luggage transportation from hotel to hotel

> Maps & tour information

> Optional: return transfer to the starting point

Your adventure begins in the Wutachschlucht, the Grand Canyon of the Black Forest – and ends with a look into the depths of the Wehraschlucht.

Accommodation

You will stay overnight in Schwatzwald-typical, familiar middle-class hotels of the ***-star category and in inns directly along the route.

Catering

Every day a rich hiking breakfast is included.

The route and requirements

> You hike mostly on forest and secluded hiking trails, always accompanied by magnificent views.
The terrain is well secured. We mainly – but not exclusively – follow the Schluchtensteig trail. This long-distance hiking trail is excellently signposted.

> Some of the paths lead over steep, impassable trails. Typical hiking surefootedness is therefore important.

> The ascents and descents in the Black Forest are easy to manage with a good basic level of fitness over walking times of up to 7 hours a day.

> The trip is suitable for people with reduced mobility not suitable. Please contact us for detailed information if needed.

Arrival

We usually recommend traveling by train. Stühlingen on the German-Swiss border near Schaffhausen also has a train station – and yes, trains do run from time to time. You can reach Stühlingen by public transport from Waldshut, for example. Plan your journey at https://bahn.de.

But if you’re not coming from Switzerland or the southwest, we honestly recommend traveling by car this time. You are coming from the east or via the A81 Stuttgart-Bodensee. Take the Donaueschingen exit and continue on the B27 towards Schaffhausen until the B314 junction, then head towards Waldshut.

From the west, take the A5 Karlsruhe-Basel. Take the Freiburg Mitte exit, continue on the B31 towards Donaueschingen, Titisee towards Feldberg and finally towards Schaffhausen.

Parking

Free and unguarded outdoor parking is available near the hotel, no pre-reservation required or possible.

Return journey

From Wehr, we will take you back to Stühlingen by transfer. Please make sure you book the return journey option in advance.
