Lahn cycle tour: 8 days on the Lahn cycle path Koblenz – source of the Lahn and back to the Rhine

8 Days

Your trip

Gen West! The Lahntal cycle path towards the evening sun

Runkel Lahn

We start this wonderful cycle tour down the Lahn in Koblenz. From there, a bus transfer will take us to the source of the Lahn the day after our arrival. A first short circular tour through the Siegen mountains to the Obernau drinking water reservoir will loosen up your muscles and tighten your saddle. Off we go to the west!

You will spend eight days and seven nights on the river with its castles, palaces, weirs, locks, monasteries, churches and people along the river – until the route takes you back to Lahnstein on the Father Rhine.

If at all possible, you can plan your day of arrival and departure so that you still have a little time for Koblenz with its fortresses, the old town, the Moselle, the Deutsches Eck, the nearby Marksburg near Braubach or the Prussian princess castle of Stolzenfels.

On this tour you have the choice between two different categories. We book for you according to your wishes
> in the“Standard” category, good 3-star inns and mid-range hotels or
> in the“Comfort” category, good to very good inns and comfort hotels at 3- and 4-star level or – if you are looking for something special.

An extensive cyclist’s breakfast is included on all our cycle tours in all hotels.

The route

lahnradwegThe cycle path in the Lahn Valley takes you along the banks of one of the most romantic and unspoiled rivers in Germany. Magnificent castles and palaces, picturesque villages and a unique natural landscape make this cycle tour an unforgettable experience.

You cover a total of around 360 km in 7 daily stages of 20 and 70 km each. The route is predominantly flat to hilly, tending to follow the course of the river downhill on dedicated cycle paths. Always follow the Lahn cycle path. Occasionally it also takes you along local and regional roads with little to moderate traffic.

Individual arrival in Koblenz

Koblenz Deutsches EckThe Rhine and Moselle await you! Koblenz, garrison and border town, capital of the former Rhenish Republic, is probably one of the most underrated cities in Germany. Once a place of longing, it has long been overshadowed by its mountains as a town of civil servants and soldiers. But Koblenz is one thing above all: well worth living in – and always worth a visit!

This round trip from and to Koblenz begins on the day with a bus transfer from Koblenz to Netphen to the source of the Lahn.

You therefore have the first day free for your arrival. Do you still have a little time left? Enjoy a stroll through the beautiful old town on the banks of the Rhine and Moselle around the Deutsches Eck. Take the train to Ehrenbreitstein Fortress and its parks, which have been waiting for their visitors in a decorative way, especially since the Federal Garden Show in Koblenz.

Is there still a little time left – before or after the tour? Visit the Marksburg, the only completely preserved hilltop castle from the Middle Ages on the Rhine near Braubach – or opposite the Stolzenfels Castle, which has been resurrected as a Prussian princess castle. Cycle up the Moselle to Kobern Gondorf and enjoy the friendliness of this wine country.

Hot tip: Whenever possible – travel by train. The Rhine Valley Railway with all its castles and small towns in the Loreley valley is a vacation experience in itself.

What do I do in bad weather?

Well, then: Actually, you are traveling in the warmest region of Germany with the most hours of sunshine – and for the most part, the weather is better than it first appears from your hotel room in the morning. But when it’s actually freezing and frosty and windy and pouring down? Have a nice day in the destinations of your ship tours, buy a train ticket and go back to Constance a little frustrated but warm and dry. The entire lake is well connected by train, bus and boat. A special tip for particularly gloomy days are the Bodenseetherme in Konstanz. At Hörnle in the district of Staad, within walking distance from the old town along the lake path in the direction of the Meersburg car ferry, you can enjoy the gray, wet and cold lake like in hardly any other place. Stop by

Where can I charge my battery when I am on the road with the e-bike?

To be honest – we don’t really have a good answer to that. In your hotel, it is prohibited to charge the batteries unattended in the hotel room for fire safety reasons. In exceptional cases, you can ask the reception to charge your battery. Ask along the way at restaurants you visit. Many houses are set up for this.
