Lahn cycle tour: 8 days on the Lahn cycle path Koblenz – source of the Lahn and back to the Rhine

8 Days

Your trip

Gen West! The Lahntal cycle path towards the evening sun

Runkel Lahn

We start this wonderful cycle tour down the Lahn in Koblenz. From there, a bus transfer will take us to the source of the Lahn the day after our arrival. A first short circular tour through the Siegen mountains to the Obernau drinking water reservoir will loosen up your muscles and tighten your saddle. Off we go to the west!

You will spend eight days and seven nights on the river with its castles, palaces, weirs, locks, monasteries, churches and people along the river – until the route takes you back to Lahnstein on the Father Rhine.

If at all possible, you can plan your day of arrival and departure so that you still have a little time for Koblenz with its fortresses, the old town, the Moselle, the Deutsches Eck, the nearby Marksburg near Braubach or the Prussian princess castle of Stolzenfels.

Accommodation

On this tour you have the choice between two different categories. We book for you according to your wishes
> in the“Standard” category, good 3-star inns and mid-range hotels or
> in the“Comfort” category, good to very good inns and comfort hotels at 3- and 4-star level or – if you are looking for something special.

An extensive cyclist’s breakfast is included on all our cycle tours in all hotels.

The route

lahnradwegThe cycle path in the Lahn Valley takes you along the banks of one of the most romantic and unspoiled rivers in Germany. Magnificent castles and palaces, picturesque villages and a unique natural landscape make this cycle tour an unforgettable experience.

You cover a total of around 360 km in 7 daily stages of 20 and 70 km each. The route is predominantly flat to hilly, tending to follow the course of the river downhill on dedicated cycle paths. Always follow the Lahn cycle path. Occasionally it also takes you along local and regional roads with little to moderate traffic.

Rental bicycles

Robust touring bikes: 7 speeds with hub gears and coaster brake or 21 speeds with derailleur gears and freewheel, comfort saddle, 28 inch with different frame heights.

Electric bikes:

With your electric bike, unisex bike with freewheel, you will feel the lightness of traveling. You have your eyes open to the world around you. The electric bike is particularly advantageous for cyclists with different levels of physical fitness and ensures that everyone can ride at the same speed.

The well-sprung bike lets you cycle comfortably, even if the terrain is a little bumpier for a short time. With the electric bike, you can experience assisted cycling on a whole new level. Despite the motor assistance, it is a bicycle in the legal sense. There is therefore no requirement for a driver’s license or helmet. However, we strongly recommend wearing a helmet on all trips, regardless of the type of bike.

The carrier shown at the front is equipped with one handlebar axle per room, in which you can comfortably transport your navigation device and light day luggage.

Accessories, insurance, breakdown assistance for rental bikes

Each rental bike on this tour is equipped with a waterproof, spacious saddle bag as well as a tool set, an air pump, an odometer and a lock. You will also receive a handlebar bag per room, and a second saddle bag per bike on request.

If you rent a bike, rental bike insurance against theft and damage is automatically included. In the event of theft or damage to the rental bike, you will not incur any costs. Of course, negligent or willful acts are excluded from the comprehensive cover. The bike must be locked and the keys to the rental bike must still be in your possession. Please refer to the information in the travel documents. Also excluded are accessories such as saddlebags and handlebar bags incl. Contents, odometer, e-bike display, etc.

Should damage occur to a rental bike, simply call the service hotline provided to you. In the rare event of a flat tire, a puncture repair kit is available for every rental bike. Tools and a spare hose are available for self-help.

Own bikes

It is possible to bring your own bikes, but at your own risk. The hotel offers free lockable and covered bicycle parking. You will find the bike room in the hotel’s own parking garage directly opposite the main entrance. Please ask for the key at the reception. Please lock bikes in the bike room again specifically.

For possible damages etc. on the own bike during the whole bike trip as well as during transport trips can not be liable. For your own safety, we recommend that you always wear a bicycle helmet on all bicycle tours.

Please note that we do not provide a breakdown and emergency assistance service on this tour if you are using your own bike. You will find bike stores and workshops along the way. Almost the entire way you can shorten by public transport (train, bus, boat).
