Your trip
Forests, rocks, castles and the warm hospitality of the people along the river await you on this tour. You always cycle along the Danube, mainly on car-free cycle paths and occasionally cross it on quaint ferries, mighty weirs and historic bridges.
Depending on the season and weather, you will certainly not be alone on the road – and yet you will cycle through a tranquility as the Rhine once knew it centuries ago: always on well-maintained and signposted cycle paths, occasionally along roads with little traffic, away from the major metropolises.
From the Stone Bridge and Regensburg Cathedral, you first cycle down the German Danube to the episcopal three-river city of Passau. Continue along the Danube to the northeast to the Upper Austrian baroque city of Linz .
From there, the Danube Cycle Path takes you through the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wachau with all its wine villages, past sights such as Greinburg Castle and the world-famous Melk Abbey, until you finally reach the enchanting imperial and waltzing city of Vienna.
On the way along the Danube you will have enough time to get to know the Austrian cuisine and hospitality in the many inns or Heurigen.
And with everything applies – as always: You cycle, we take care of your luggage. Luggage transport incl.
Accommodation
The route
The Danube Cycle Path is one of Europe’s main cycle routes and has been a popular premium cycle path for years, especially among tourist cyclists. They travel almost continuously from the source, first along the German Danube to Passau and then on through Austria to Vienna, car-free, on their own routes along the river. They only share the route with municipal agricultural or local traffic on some stretches, mainly on local roads.
The cycle path is excellently developed and is therefore also ideal for families. There are many places to stop for refreshments, playgrounds and river meadows along the route. You cycle through enchanting countryside from old town to old town, from castle to castle and from metropolis to metropolis. A firework display of diversity in the historic heart of Europe!
The routes are mostly flat along the river, but occasionally you are out and about in hilly vineyards or forests. You will cover a total of around 400 kilometers by bike on this tour.
