Your trip
Experience one of the most beautiful cycle tours in Germany: on the Altmühl and Danube cycle paths!
Combine two of the country’s most popular cycle routes to create a unique journey through Bavaria’s natural and cultural landscapes. Along the leisurely flowing Altmühl, the slowest river in Germany, you will discover the mysterious valley of the “Ur-Danube” – a geological jewel that has carved its way through the Franconian Alb since the uplift of the Alps.
The little-known Wellheimer Trockental, also known as the “Urdonautal”, forms the heart of this tour – a quiet, impressive nature experience off the beaten track.
You cross three charming valleys on comfortable, car-free and flat cycle paths. Your journey begins in the historic cathedral city of Eichstätt and continues to cultural highlights such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Regensburg, the imposing Liberation Hall and the Benedictine monastery of Weltenburg with its legendary beer garden right on the riverbank.
The crowning glory is the old royal seat of Neuburg an der Donau – with its magnificent palace, the baroque palace pharmacy and the court and study church, which impressively combine history and architecture.
