Cycling tour Germany: The most beautiful paths along the Danube and Altmühl

Arrival Eichstätt

Individual journey to Eichstätt in the Altmühltal Nature Park.
Do you still have a little time on the first day? Visit the cathedral, the Residenz, the Willibaldsburg, the beautiful old town on the river.

You will spend the night in 3***or 4**** hotel, eg. IBB Hotel Altmühltal or equivalent. Your rental bike, if booked, will be ready for you at the hotel. You will receive the travel documents.

Bike tour Eichstätt – Beilngries, approx. 50 km, 220 m ↑ 240 m ↓, ~ 5 h

On the car-free Altmühlradweg, the route goes through the juniper heath past Walting, Kipfenberg. The town boasts of being the geographical center of Bavaria. Via Kinding (church castle) you cycle to the day’s destination. Give Beilngreis a little time with its baroque town hall, the Church of Our Lady and Hirschberg Castle.

Bike tour Beilngries – Kelheim, approx. 45 km, 140 m ↑ 160 m ↓, ~ 4 h

Passing Dietfurt with its funny Chinese fountain, you will reach the 3-castle town of Riedenburg. Admission to the Crystal Museum is included in the tour price. Visit the world’s largest rock crystal group.

Continue via Essing – with the longest and futuristic-looking wooden bridge in Germany to the Wittelsbach town of Kelheim. Visit the Liberation Hall high on the Michelsberg above the city and stroll through the beautiful old town.

Cycle tour Kelheim – Regensburg, approx. 35 km, 130 m ↑ 140 m ↓, ~ 3 h

Via Bad Abbach you will reach the UNSECO World Heritage City of Regensburg with its famous Stone Bridge, the cathedral, the castle of the Princes Thurn and Taxis on the Danube Cycle Path. A guided tour of the historic Reichstag in the Old Town Hall is included in the tour price. If you like, continue the Danube Cycle Path on to Valhalla and back by boat. There are about 16 km to cycle and about 2 h to plan for the boat trip. Please pay yourself on site if necessary.

Bike tour Regensburg – Bad Gögging, approx. 50 km, 130 m ↑ 100 m ↓, ~ 3 h & approx. 1 h boat trip

On the Danube Cycle Path you ride out of town to the southwest to the Weltenburg Danube Breakthrough. By ship we continue to the Weltenburg Monastery. The boat ride is included in the tour price. Take a break at the oldest beer brewery in the world and then continue to the day’s destination.

Bike tour Bad Gögging – Neuburg on the Danube, approx. 55 km, 130 m ↑ 100 m ↓, ~ 6 h

Today you cycle along the largely car-free Danube Cycle Path through hop fields and past beautiful bathing lakes to Vohburg. The route continues to Ingolstadt with its impressive old town and the New Castle. as well as to Neuburg with its no less beautiful old town and the famous Schlossapotheke.

Bike tour Neuburg – Wellheimer Trockental – Eichstätt, approx. 60 km

The highlight and conclusion: You cycle along the Danube for a short distance and then turn north into the Wellheimer Trockental, the primeval valley of the Danube. The trail leads you to medieval Dollnstein and the day’s destination.
