Surrounded by water all around – the Dutch province of North Holland is situated on a peninsula between the North Sea, the Wadden Sea and the IJsselmeer.

The rich history of the Far North of Holland has left its mark on the rugged landscape. Picturesque little towns tell of a time when the IJsselmeer was still called the Zuiderzee and had open access to the North Sea.

A visit to the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen brings those times back to life. Discover the peninsula between the North Sea, the IJsselmeer and Texel, the largest West Frisian island.

The landscape, your tour is characterized by water, dikes and dunes, nature reserves, flower fields, pastures and many picturesque towns.

Your ship

MS SERENA is a cozy river ship with a nice salon, bar and air-conditioned restaurant. Enjoy home-style meals.

The sun deck is partially covered. It offers comfortable seating and storage for bicycles.

On warm evenings and fresh mornings it is the heart and head of the ship – very cozy with its seating areas and deck chairs.

Length of the ship: 90 m, width: 9,90 m, draught: 1,70 m, capacity: up to 99 passengers and 10 persons of the crew.

The cabins

In total there are 33 cabins on the main deck and 18 cabins on the promenade deck. The 2-bed cabins on both decks have 2 single beds and are about 8-9 sqm, the two junior suites on the main deck have a French bed (Grandlit, 1.40 x 2.00 m) and are about 12 sqm.

The total of three 1-bed cabins (two 1-bed cabins on the main deck and one 1-bed cabin on the promenade deck) each have approx. 6 sqm. All cabins are equipped with shower/WC, safe, color TV, ventilation system and an opening window.

The excursion program is aus exclusively bookable directly on board. You will receive a brief description with your travel documents. Depending on the composition of the participants, the excursions may be offered bilingually German-English.

Please note that schedules and programs are subject to change without notice. If, for example, due to low water, high water or bad weather, a route cannot be taken, the captain reserves the right to change the route for your safety. This is not a free reason for withdrawal. The same applies to lock or bridge repairs ordered by the authorities and not announced in advance.

Rental bikes

7-Gang-Unisex-Tourenräder und 8-Gang E-Bikes der Firma Velo de Ville mit Handbremse, Freilauf oder Rücktrittbremse (bitte bei Buchung als unverbindlichen Kundenwunsch angeben). Die Räder sind ausgestattet mit Gepäckträgertasche und Leihradversicherung.

E-Bikes sind nur begrenzt verfügbar. Please indicate your height when booking.

Mitnahme eigener Räder

Sie können Ihre eigenen Fahrräder oder E-Bikes mitnehmen. Only e-bikes with removable, not permanently installed battery can be taken along. Please note that this is done at your own risk. The shipping company excludes any liability for loss, theft, damage. This also applies to transport damage from ship to shore and back. The shipping company charges a small additional fee for taking your bikes with you. Please book the option“own bike” with.

Arrival

We recommend that you arrive by train. Enkhuizen is easily accessible by train via Amsterdam. You can find connections e.g. at www.bahn.de.

Get in on the vacation at home. Enjoy the ride – and look forward to the punctuality of the Dutch Railways. Book our rental bikes and come aboard completely relaxed.

If you arrive by car, please use one of the public parking lots or parking garages near the port.

Important notes

The minimum number of participants on the ship is 50. If we do not reach the minimum number of participants, we must cancel the trip up to 21 days before the start of the trip.

We recommend good rainwear, bicycle helmet, sun hat as well as sports shoes. Please take your own helmet with you. Helmets cannot be purchased or rented on board.

We recommend that you take out international health insurance with repatriation, accident insurance, baggage insurance and travel cancellation insurance.

Please note: This trip is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Country information

EU citizens (who do not have any special circumstances, e.g. dual citizenship, primary residence abroad or provisionally issued travel documents) require a valid identity card or passport for this trip, which must still be valid after the end of the trip for at least must be valid for 6 months. If you have another citizenship or more than one citizenship or if you have to observe special legal regulations, please inform yourself about the respective visa and entry regulations at your responsible consulate.

Enkhuizen - embarkation :
Day 1

Embarkation day & time for Enkhuizen

Individual arrival to Enkhuizen. Embarkation from 16:00. Please be at the quay on time.

You still have a little time?

Treat yourself to a first short walk through the pretty historic port city with its charming old town. We will be happy to assist you if you wish to arrive a day in advance or stay longer.

Day 2

Cycle tour around Enkhuizen, approx. 35 km

Today you will get to know the pretty harbor town on the shore of the IJsselmeer and its beautiful surroundings. The rich history of the city can still be glimpsed during a walk through the old town with its numerous villas, canals, churches, city walls and harbors.

Tip: A visit to the Zuiderzee Museum is highly recommended.

Windmills Kinderdijk

If you want to make a day trip to Amsterdam: Enkhuizen train station is within walking distance of the berth. Train connections to Amsterdam and back every 30 minutes. Travel time approx. 1 h (train ticket not included)

Day 3

Boat trip Enkhuizen – Lemmer, bike tour around Lemmer, approx. 40 km

In the morning boat trip across the IJsselmeer to Lemmer with its historic old town and pretty gabled houses. Start of the round bike tour: Via Oosterzee Buren to the Tjeukemeer and via Munnekeburen, Scherpenzeel and Schoterzijl back to Lemmer. Tip: Visit the largest steam bailer in the world still in operation “Woudagemaal”.

Day 4

Bike tour Lemmer – Stavoren, bike tour approx. 32 – 41 km / boat trip Stavoren – Oudeschild (island Texel)

By bike it goes to the Sondeler Leien lake, from there through the forest area Rijsterbos, past the Mokkebank (bird reserve) to the Roode Klif to Stavoren. From there boat trip to Oudeschild to the island of Texel.

Cycle round trip on the largest Dutch North Sea island Texel. Different routes approx. 29/32/47/70 km are available. Around 17:30 boat trip to Den Helder.

Den Helder - Alkmaar :
Day 6

Den Helder – Sint Maartensvlotbrug – Alkmaar, cycling tour approx. 30 km

In the morning you cycle through the dunes to Alkmaar. It is possible to get back on the boat in St. Maartensvlotbrug and go to Alkmaar or to start the bike tour in St. Maartensvlotbrug.

Alkmaar - Hoorn :
Day 7

Boat trip Alkmaar – Wormerveer, Wormerveer – Hoorn, bike tour approx. 55 km

From Wormerveer you start in the morning to the open-air museum Zaanse Schans (windmills, old Dutch village, cheese dairy and much more). We continue in the direction of Volendam. Shortly before you have the opportunity to visit a cheese dairy in Katwoude. Here you can see how Gouda cheese and the traditional Dutch wooden shoes are made.

Delft

Via Volendam, known as a traditional fishing village with typical authentic cottages, you cycle to Hoorn. For a short visit to the historic old town with its many buildings from the 17th century. (e.g. the harbor tower or the warehouses on the old quay) you should still take some time.

Questions & Answers

Will the trip go ahead in any case?

As soon as at least 50 people have booked the trip, it will take place. If we fall short of the minimum number of participants, we must cancel the trip up to 21 days before the start of the trip.

What are aft cabins?

The aft cabins are located in the rear part of the ship. Engine and generator noise is particularly audible in locks and while sailing.

What rental bikes are available?

You can choose:
– Bicycle Standard touring bike: rental touring bike, 7-speed unisex with coaster brake or
Free wheel (subject to availability), luggage carrier bags, rental bike insurance
– Bike E-bike: rental electric bike, 8-speed unisex with coaster brake or
Free wheel (subject to availability), luggage carrier bags, rental bike insurance

Can I bring my own bike?

In principle, you can take your own bike on the ship. However, please note the following:
– Bringing your own bikes is only possible on request due to limited space.
– You take them with you at your own risk.
– We cannot be held liable for any damage/loss etc. to your own bike during the entire bike trip or for transport damage. Neither on board nor on land.
– Please always load and care for your bike only according to the instructions of the on-board personnel.
For your own safety, we recommend that you always wear a bicycle helmet on all bicycle tours.

What are the conditions and technical requirements of the trip?

The bike tours are individual and unguided.
They cover between 40 and 70 km a day.
The routes are usually flat and can be classified as easy.
The trip is not suitable for persons with reduced mobility. Please contact us for detailed information if needed.

Are there any excursions?

In addition to the bike tours we offer a small excursion program.
You can spontaneously register on board. You will receive a brief description with your travel documents. Depending on the composition of the participants, the excursions are mostly bilingual German-English.

What to pack in?

Well, depending on the season recommend good rainwear and wind protection (scarf, ear muffs, gloves, windbreaker), bicycle helmet, sun hat, as well as sports shoes. Please also remember sunscreen, ‘after-sun’, mosquito repellent. The cabins do have lockers. However, you will not regret it if you can arrive with duffel bag, bag or backpacks instead of suitcases. Towels can be found on board.

What do I have to consider when entering the Netherlands?

EU citizens and Swiss citizens (who do not have any special circumstances, e.g. dual citizenship, primary residence abroad or provisionally issued travel documents) require a valid identity card or passport for entry into the Netherlands, which must still be valid for at least two months after the end of the journey. must be valid for 6 months.
If you have another citizenship or more than one citizenship, or if you have special legal requirements, please contact us before booking your trip.

Is there travel insurance?

The standard price does not include travel cancellation insurance. However, we strongly recommend that you take out cancellation insurance. Please ask for a quote when booking. We are happy to recommend an insurance company with whom we have had good experiences all around in the past.
