Sun Lakes Mountains of South Tyrol: active vacations for families in Italy

8 Days

Your trip

You want to experience mountains together as a family? Give the children an impression of this grandiose setting to touch, which – perhaps – shapes a lifetime?

Then you are right here: Welcome under the sun of South Tyrol!

Lots of sunshine, hikes past fragrant apple orchards and grapevines, and magnificent views of the high peaks of the Ötztal and Ortler Alps: in South Tyrol, the sun shines more than 300 days a year.

But not only the impressive views of the largest nature park in South Tyrol, but also the many characteristic Waalwege make the hiking trip in South Tyrol a wonderful family tour.

Waalwege, that’s the name of the popular family hiking trails that accompany, without much of a climb, the rivulets that once served to irrigate the fields of South Tyrol and in some cases still do today.

Great fun for children, because the irrigation channels and great watercourses accompany you rushing and gurgling and turn every hike into a fun water game.

But even away from the shady paths, many little adventures await you: via ferratas, swimming lakes, adventure trails and exciting museum visits. The hiking trip South Tyrol for families – a fun hiking vacation for all shoe sizes.

Experience the lakes and mountains, the Adige Valley of South Tyrol: the hospitality and friendliness will delight you!

You will travel on well-paved trails, often along the “Waalwege”, the old irrigation systems, as well as on asphalted sections. Individual stages can easily be shortened by public transport.

The trip is not suitable for persons with reduced mobility. Please contact us for detailed information if needed.

For the most part, we recommend traveling by train. In this tour it is possible, but not easy.

You can take the train to Landeck and from there by bus in about 1.5 hours to Reschen. Alternatively, you can get to Mals by train via Bolzano and Merano. From there the bus will take you to Reschen in about 30 minutes. Information and timetables can be found at Deutsche Bahn(www.bahn.de).

Car/Parking

Parking is available directly at the hotel for about 5,- / day; payable locally at the hotel; no reservation possible or necessary. For the most part, there is also free, unguarded parking near the hotel.

Return journey

From Merano you take the Vinschgau Railway to Mals in about 1.5 hours and from there by bus to Reschen in about 30 minutes. This tour is worth a real trip! Take plenty of time to do this on the last day and enjoy once again the route you have hiked.

If you choose your tour to travel back on Saturdays or Sundays or Mondays, you can also book a transfer between Merano and Resia by minibus. Please book the option “Transfer Person” in addition.

Travel with dog

On this walking tour you are welcome to take your four-legged friend with you. Please let us know the breed and size of your dog when booking. Any additional costs are payable on site.
