Cross-country skiing Black Forest 2024: five romantic taster days at the Notschrei massif

5 Days

Your trip

You have a few days for a winter adventure? You want to get into the probably noblest of all winter sports and (re)discover the virtue of cross-country skiing for yourself? Perhaps you would like to hone your technique a little – before you venture out on the big cross-country ski tours in Scandinavia or the Alps? Well. Then we have just the right thing for you with this trip!

In the most beautiful Black Forest winter romance, in the valley of the Höllental railroad of the southern Upper Black Forest between Freiburg and Lake Titisee, we offer you 5 days of relaxation and training. You will stay in a typical Black Forest family hotel of the 3-star category in Kirchzarten an der Breisam. Your skiing area is the Notschrei – around the Nordic cross-country skiing center.

This trip offers you authenticity and diversity!
Far away from the crowds on the Feldberg, you will experience Black Forest winter magic in idyll and tranquility.

  • From a sporting point of view, you are in the best hands: The ski school at the Nordic Centre on the Notschrei prepares you for the cross-country skiing experience in courses or individual lessons with a lot of experience, desire and mood: in classic technique or skating – just as you wish.
  • The extensive grounds of the Nordic Center offer ideal opportunities for practice and training.
  • The trails offer variety, beautiful views and technical refinements. A total of around 40 km of excellently groomed trails are available to you on the Notschrei massif. Mostly the trails are two-lane with inside skating track. The length of the routes varies from 2 to 20 km.

And with all this, relaxation will not be neglected. Experience the Black Forest!

  • Recover from the training sessions and cross-country skiing in the wellness area and the restaurant of your hotel or in the village.
  • Set off by train to discover the Black Forest metropolis of Freiburg in Baden.
  • Take the same train in the opposite direction to Titisee with its Black Forest spa, to Schluchsee. explore the Feldbergsee and the peak above it in a winter hike from the Bärental train station.
  • Make yourself comfortable and enjoy Hinterzarten and the romantic winter villages in Dreisam Valley.

With this trip we offer an all-round feel-good package including. Ski lessons and rental of skis, poles and boots. If you want to bring your own material, this is of course possible. Please indicate this when booking; we will credit you the cost module. Otherwise, please tell us your shoe size, s. d. we can stock appropriate shoes.

Accommodation

You will stay in hotels of good 3*** category with wellness area and sauna. The selected houses are located in the valley of the Dreisam in the winter towns along the Höllentalbahn from Freiburg to Titisee. Please pay tourist tax, if due, directly on site.

The rooms are individually decorated: from simple and functional to spacious and sophisticated, you can choose between two categories or suites. The latter we ask you to request when booking. The rooms mostly have a balcony and are actually all very quiet.

All rooms are exclusively non-smoking. They have 120cm or 140cm box spring beds, shower, WC, safe, minibar, telephone, flat screen TV, hairdryer and are mostly equipped with I-Pod docking station.

Ski course & trails :
Day 2 and 3

Day 2 and 3: Ski course & trails, 4 – 20 km

The two days after your trip are available for skiing lessons, individual training on the Nordic Arena Notschrei terrain (if not currently closed) and the cross-country skiing terrain on the Notschrei massif.

Basically, the routes are level and very varied. The training area is located in a beautiful high and panoramic location. But that also means that it goes downhill relatively quickly and sometimes steeply all around. In particular, the Stübenwasserspur, as a black trail, is aimed at experienced runners. Feel your way in carefully. Please try more challenging routes especially at less busy times.

You can take breaks at any time, walk routes and return to the Nordic Arena training area. The arena also offers sections of varying difficulty, so you can try out and feel your way around at your leisure.

The cross-country skiing house and its farm cafe offers toilets, warmth, drinks and small meals.

Day at leisure :
Day 4

Day 4 – Your day at leisure

Make something of this day off. Explore another of the Notschrei cross-country ski trails.

Do you feel like a winter hike? In our komoot tour description we suggest a beautiful winter hike from Notschrei to Feldberg. You will be walking for 4 to 5 hours over 13 km and almost 500 meters of altitude in the winter forest with magnificent views of the Black Forest and the Alps.

The tour takes you to the top of the pass on the Feldberg. From there, hiking buses depart hourly to the Feldberg Bärental train station. You can then take the train back to your hotel in comfort – all paid for free with your Konus guest card.

Alternatively, for a feel-good day, take the Dreisam train to Titisee and visit the spa. Perhaps you will enjoy a winter hike beforehand? Then drive to the highest station in Germany, Bärental station on the Feldberg.

If you hike from there in the direction of Feldbergsee and then perhaps master the steep climb to the summit, you will “escape” the hordes of skiers who populate the mountain from its south side in fine winter weather. A beautiful winter hike.

Alternatively, take the train in the other direction and visit the university city of Freiburg in Baden.

Enjoy the day!

Dates and prices

Dates

Although the training facility on the Notschrei and the cross-country ski trails are prepared with artificial snow, the snow situation in the Upper Black Forest is becoming more difficult from year to year. We can therefore unfortunately not give binding “snow dates”. We are planning the tour for the period from the beginning of January to the end of March. The scheduled tour start is always Wed + Fri + Sun. Therefore, please let us check in each individual case whether we can actually offer the tour on your desired date.

Questions

Can I arrive by train?

Yes – nothing better than that. You get on the train, you get on the vacation. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from Kirchzarten train station. On site you do not need a car. The bus will take you to the Nordic Centre Notschrei and the starting point of the cross-country trails. By train you can travel to Freiburg, to the Titisee, to the Schluchsee, to the Feldberg or also in the direction of Donaueschingen across the entire southern Black Forest along the world-famous Wutach Gorge, the “Grand Canyon” of the Black Forest. And best of all, you’ve already paid for all of this. With the tourist tax you get the KONUS card. It is valid in the entire public transport of the entire region in all trains and buses.

Where can I park?

Directly on site at the hotel parking lot. Please note, however: On site you will – most likely – not need a car. All destinations can be easily reached by public transport, which is fully included in the price. The hotel itself is located near the S-Bahn station of the Dreisamtalbahn Kirchzarten.

Can I ski with my own skis?

Of course. Please specify when booking that you bring your own equipment (shoes, poles, skis). We will credit you the cost module.

Are there group and family offerings?

The trip is perfect for families or small groups. Provided we can book long enough in advance for you, both family and group suites are available as vacation accommodation, as well as group ski courses tailored specifically to you. Please contact us. We’ll see what we can arrange.

Please note: The routes shown are for rough orientation only. Please follow the mostly very well signposted trails. They deviate from the paths outlined here, but roughly follow the same course. The cross-country trails tend to be somewhat shorter and flatter than the trails designated here.
