Cycle tour Villingen-Schwenningen – Heidelberg: 9 days on the Neckar Cycle Path from castle to castle

9 Days

Your trip

Down the Neckar from the source to Heidelberg Castle

Heidelberg Old Bridge

We start this wonderful cycle tour down the Neckar right at the source in Villingen-Schwenningen’s city park.

You will spend nine days and eight nights by the river among wine and castles, forest and modernity.

Seven full days belong to the saddle. If at all possible, you can plan your day of arrival and departure so that you still have a little time for nature and the romance of the castles and small towns along the river.

Accommodation

On this tour you have the choice between two different categories. We book for you according to your wishes
> in the“Standard” category, good 3-star inns and mid-range hotels or
> in the“Comfort” category, good to very good inns and comfort hotels at 3- and 4-star level or – if you are looking for something special.

An extensive cyclist’s breakfast is included on all our cycle tours in all hotels.

.

The route

Cycling between idyllic rivers and romantic castles. The Neckar cycle path begins its course in Schwenninger Moos. Steep terraced vineyards, defiant castles and baroque palaces accompany you on your way through the Neckar Valley. The charming little town of Rottweil, medieval Tübingen and historic Heidelberg are just some of the outstanding experiences. A cycle tour for connoisseurs and explorers.

Robust touring bikes: 7 speeds with hub gears and coaster brake or 21 speeds with derailleur gears and freewheel, comfort saddle, 28 inch with different frame heights.

Electric bikes:

With your electric bike, unisex bike with freewheel, you will feel the lightness of traveling. You have your eyes open to the world around you. The electric bike is particularly advantageous for cyclists with different levels of physical fitness and ensures that everyone can ride at the same speed.

The well-sprung bike lets you cycle comfortably, even if the terrain is a little bumpier for a short time. With the electric bike, you can experience assisted cycling on a whole new level. Despite the motor assistance, it is a bicycle in the legal sense. There is therefore no requirement for a driver’s license or helmet. However, we strongly recommend wearing a helmet on all trips, regardless of the type of bike.

The carrier shown at the front is equipped with one handlebar axle per room, in which you can comfortably transport your navigation device and light day luggage.

Accessories, insurance, breakdown assistance for rental bikes

Each rental bike on this tour is equipped with a waterproof, spacious saddle bag as well as a tool set, an air pump, an odometer and a lock. You will also receive a handlebar bag per room, and a second saddle bag per bike on request.

Of course, negligent or willful acts are excluded from the comprehensive cover. The bike must be locked and the keys to the rental bike must still be in your possession. Please refer to the information in the travel documents. Also excluded are accessories such as saddlebags and handlebar bags incl. Contents, odometer, e-bike display, etc.

Should damage occur to a rental bike, simply call the service hotline provided to you. In the rare event of a flat tire, a puncture repair kit is available for every rental bike. Tools and a spare hose are available for self-help.

Own bikes

It is possible to bring your own bikes, but at your own risk. The hotel offers free lockable and covered bicycle parking. You will find the bike room in the hotel’s own parking garage directly opposite the main entrance. Please ask for the key at the reception. Please lock bikes in the bike room again specifically.

What happens if I break down or have an accident while driving?

Please note that we cannot provide on-site service for your own bikes on the road on this tour. In the event of a breakdown, please try to get back to Lindau on your own. Along the entire cycle path there are several emergency stations, repair kits and also bicycle repair shops. Almost the entire bike path can also be shortened by public transport (train, bus, boat). If you have booked rental bikes, please call the service hotline.

What do I do in bad weather?

Well, then: Actually, you are traveling in the warmest region of Germany with the most hours of sunshine – and for the most part, the weather is better than it first appears from your hotel room in the morning. But when it’s actually freezing and frosty and windy and pouring down? Have a nice day in the destinations of your ship tours, buy a train ticket and go back to Constance a little frustrated but warm and dry. The entire lake is well connected by train, bus and boat. A special tip for particularly gloomy days are the Bodenseetherme in Konstanz. At Hörnle in the district of Staad, within walking distance from the old town along the lake path in the direction of the Meersburg car ferry, you can enjoy the gray, wet and cold lake like in hardly any other place. Stop by https://www.therme-konstanz.de/

Where can I charge my battery when I am on the road with the e-bike?

To be honest – we don’t really have a good answer to that. In your hotel, it is prohibited to charge the batteries unattended in the hotel room for fire safety reasons. In exceptional cases, you can ask the reception to charge your battery. Ask along the way at restaurants you visit. Many houses are set up for this.
